One raid night, I was raiding with my friends, the fellow members of my guild. We were on General Nazgrim and this may have been the 3rd or 4th attempt for my guild, ever. I am Velistius on Thunderhorn, playing as a Holy Specialized Paladin. My job: spot heals, keep tanks up. The battle begins when a tank takes General Nazgrim. In and out of each of his stance changes we perform our important dance moves. Through the fight, each phase becomes more and more critical as more and more of us in this twenty-five man raid start falling off. These things happen, not because of any healer in particular. Maybe some DPS got caught in a snit and weren’t sure where to turn or just had bad luck. Either way, if we were to wipe, we would probably just pick back up and try again. The fight is going, we’re doing well with the right moves and we get him down to 10%. This is the important window of opportunity because he begins summoning twice as much help and his strength goes up. We need a Time Warp at this point but it looks like our Mage went down and we don’t have a Shaman or a Hunter with a pet that has hysteria. What now? This looks bad as my eyes are flipping back and forth from the lives of the remaining members in my raid group, all 9 of them, and the boss’s life. Steadily, his life is falling as members of my raid are falling: 9%, a dps dies, 3%, our tank dies. This doesn’t look good. Basically, since our tank died, the remaining dps have been putting as much hurt on him in an attempt to bring him down. 2%, another 2 dps dies. There’s 1 dps and myself still up and he’s at 1%. This is going to be a long 1%, if we get him, I think. General Nazgrim charges at me. I begin hitting him with Denounce and Holy Shock and if he were any closer I would hit him with Crusader Strike but I bubble just before he can touch me. I’m safe for the moment. He instead, runs for the dps, a Boomkin who instinctually starts playing as if he is PvP’ing, and attempts to jump and spin, as if these actions were going to increase some hidden evasion modifier. Points for going out with style, I slyly think. I glance at Nazgrim’s health, hand shaking… 150,000. This is a tense moment as my clenched jaw can tell. The Boomkin wittles away at him and is able to get a couple moon beams on him before perishing. Nazgrim turns and runs at me. At this point, the raid leader is declaring on Mumble, “Close, so close… Okay guys, this next time, I want to…” His voice fades out. I see Nazgrim’s life is 86,000 and start hitting him with denouce and Holy Shocks. With my gear, Denounce has a 1.3 cast time and he’s halfway across the room. One denounce, 66,000, he’s halfway to me, two denounce, he’s half that distance with 45,000 and quite large on my screen, very intimidating. Third denounce, he’s two yards away, he raises his Axe menacingly, and keep in mind this is happening extremely fast, instinctually I hit holy shock him as soon as Denounce leaves my fingertips, which crits him for 32,000 and he falls, dying by my hand, at my feet. The achievement dings on the screen amidst the shouts of triumph, guffaws of exasperation, and comments of dubious faith, from members of my raid who are logged into Mumble. As I see, all of the members in the raid are dead, lying all around. It is incredible. I, a Holy Spec’d Paladin, was the last man standing and was responsible for the final blows on General Nazgrim that killed him and achieved the next step in raid progression for the guild. As I received an audible honorable mention from the raid leader, and many whispers of gratitude and kudos for a job well-done from other members in the raid. What a great day to be a raider…

General Nazgrim dies by my hand, at my feet
When evil rises to power, good men step forward to overthrow them. Across the battlefield, the bodies of would be heroes lie limply in the dirt, donned in gear of past triumphs and feats. And those left standing wrestle with the fear gripping their hearts, as they nervously look death in the eye, with only their instincts to save them...
