How to Beat Valgard in Sons of Valhalla

Valgard is the first boss you’ll face in Sons of Valhalla. He’s kidnapped your wife, and you have to take over all of his outposts and bases to get to him. However, you won’t have access to your troops. In this guide, I’ll show you how to beat Valgard in Sons of Valhalla. 

Sons of Valhalla: How to Defeat Valgard

Since Valgard is the first boss fight, it’s also the first time you’ll be fighting an enemy without the ability to have your troops with you. This means you’ll have to think about your battle strategies differently. Valgard is a strong and fast opponent; if you’re not prepared, you’ll be in for a rough time. 

Prepare for the Fight

This means you’ll need to make some preparations before you even start the fight. The most important stat I recommend you upgrade is your stamina. Since Valgard is so fast, you’ll be dodging constantly, which will consume your stamina in no time. 

If you have extra resources to spend, I also suggest increasing your strength at the Mead Hall. He has a lot of health, so any extra damage you can dish out will help immensely. This also means that any Runes that increase your attack will also be helpful. 

Valgard Boss – Fight Tips

Valgard has several different attacks that you’ll have to watch out for. His first attack will have him spin back and forth across the level. The best way to avoid this is to run to the opposite side as much as you can and dodge at the last moment before he hits you. This will minimize the amount of stamina you’ll use.

After his spin attack, he’ll be out of breath, and you can unleash 2 to 3 heavy attacks depending on how much stamina you have left. This is the best way to dish out damage. 

Valgard also has an attack where he throws his axe, and it comes back like a boomerang. To dodge this attack, you’ll need to roll into the axe when he throws it and then roll into it again when it returns. 

The last special attack you’ll need to look out for is when he starts throwing barrels at you. They will bounce twice; you’ll want to stand in a position where they’ll bounce right over you. During this phase, I found out that you can shoot him with your bow for some damage and not worry about getting hurt. If you manage to shoot him in the head, you’ll deal extra damage.
