In an exclusive interview with Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, Hironobu Sakaguchi and Yoshinori Kitase discussed the newest installment in the Final Fantasy series.
The game, deemed Mevius Final Fantasy, pays homage to the earlier titles by featuring an explorable world map, random encounters, and an experience-based leveling system. The main character who is currently unnamed, bears a resemblance to Vaan from Final Fantasy XII and the Warrior of Light from several games.
Toshiyuki Itahana, known for working on character concepts for Final Fantasy IX, Crystal Chronicles, and Final Fantasy Explorers will do the same for Mevius.
Mevius will be released on iOS and Android devices in Japan in Spring 2015. There’s no news on when the mobile game will release in English, however Square Enix released a teaser website in both English and Japanese giving hope the game will be translated. The site will be updated with more information periodically so fans can eventually find out what Mevius means.
