Trading isn’t just a lot of fun in Manor Lords but also a lot of work. Before you can start trading goods in large enough quantities, you’ll have to go through a number of steps. Here, I’ll run you through how to trade in Manor Lords, as well as explain all the trade rules of the game.
Manor Lords: How to Trade and Set Trade Rules
Step 1: Build a Trading Post
Before you can set any major trade routes and assign trade rules, you need to first build a trading post by doing the following:
- Go to your “Construction” menu.
- Select the “Trade” tab.
- Choose either the “Trading Post” or “Livestock Trading Post.”
- Select an area on the map.
- Left-click on the spot to start the construction (4x Timber).
Step 2: Assign a Family of Traders
Any type of Trading Post will only work if you hire a family of traders to run the post. Here’s how you can do it:
- Open the “Trading Post” menu.
- Go to the “General” tab.
- Press the “+” (plus) button to add personnel (up to 4).
- Remove personnel in the “People” tab of the same menu.
Step 3: Set Trade Rules
Finally, you can set trade rules for all the goods that you wish to sell. This will allow you to control all of your trade deals, including imports and exports:
- Go to your “Trading Post” menu.
- Select the “Trade” tab.
- Left-click the drop-down menu at each resource, and choose one of the following:
- No Trade: Never trade this good.
- Import: Buy until the Desired Surplus is reached.
- Export: Sell until the Desired Surplus is reached.
- Full Trade: Trade until the Desired Surplus is reached.
- Use the “+/-” buttons to set the desired surplus.
How to Establish Trade Routes and Logistics for Import and Export
When trading certain goods in large quantities, I can stumble upon a certain problem, which requires me to establish a trade route. This means that I need to determine the logistics of imported and exported major trades. Follow these steps, if you find yourself in a similar position:
- Go to your “Trading Post” menu.
- Select the “Trade” tab.
- Left-click the “horse and cart” icon to establish the trade route for the chosen resource.
Note that each trade route will cost you more Regional Wealth than the previous one. That’s why I wouldn’t waste my development points and invest them in the Logistics under the Trade development tree. In this way, you’ll make sure that all your trade routes cost no more than 25 Regional Wealth. Also, make sure that you invest in Better Deals under the same development tree to better control the market’s supply and demand.
