Frontier Developments have recently announced in a investor’s update that it will be laying off 15 members of staff. This news comes only days after announcing a new game, Coaster Park Tycoon.
“Re-focusing”
There will be 15 “content creation roles” being made redundant from the Cambridge studio, this is for the purposes of “re-focusing its development activities”.
This “re-focusing” is due to Frontier Developments wanting to shift developement roles from their Halifax, Nova Scotia studio to their Cambridge studio, so they can “match the needs of these two projects”–in reference to Elite: Dangerous, and Coaster Park Tycoon.
Jonny Watts, Chief Creative Officer of Frontier Developments, said:
“Coaster Park games appeal to a great many people, as proven by RollerCoaster Tycoon 3. It is a field for which Frontier has unparalleled expertise and immense passion, and one to which we have long wanted to make a ‘no-holds-barred’ return. We want Coaster Park Tycoon to be another major step forward for the simulation genre, and sit alongside Elite: Dangerous as a second major self-published franchise.”
Loosing your job sucks!
Well my best wishes goes out to all 15 staffers who will be loosing their jobs, hope you all find new paths and venture forth to glory! Making wonderful games is glory enough for me, no crusades please (except in game form).
