Unlike the mental rune gate puzzles in Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, combat is a much more physical challenge to overcome that you don’t have the luxury of time to work out. Instead, it takes fast thinking and precise timing to counter your opponent and defeat them. This is everything you need to know about fighting.
How to Fight in Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2
The combat in Hellblade 2 is a lot more complicated than just mashing random buttons. It’s more Dark Souls-esque than that, requiring you to time your movements precisely and wait for an opening to strike. Get too cocky or impatient, and the enemies will tear you apart in a second. Before getting to the specifics, you’ll need to know all the basic attack moves first.
All Combat Moves in Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2
The controls will vary depending on what platforms you are on, but the moves remain the same. You can switch between fast and power strikes, block or parry an opponent’s attacks, or dodge incoming attacks.
PC
Move | Control |
---|---|
Block/Parry | Ctrl |
Heavy Attack | M2 |
Fast Attack | M1 |
Dodge | Spacebar |
Xbox
Move | Control |
---|---|
Block/Parry | RB |
Heavy Attack | Y |
Fast Attack | X |
Dodge | A |
PlayStation
Move | Control |
---|---|
Block/Parry | R1 |
Heavy Attack | Triangle |
Fast Attack | Square |
Dodge | X |
Now that you know the basic controls of fighting, it’s time to put them all together to defeat your opponent. It’s critical that you are patient, wait out the opponent’s attacks, and counter back with your own.
The secret to winning a battle is waiting for the opponent to attack first. This way, you can use a block/parry or dodge and then return your own effective hit while they are off balance. The quickest way to hit them without lowering your own guard is to perform a successful parry. Anytime they go to swing at you, press the block/parry button right before they hit you, and you’ll counter them. The only time you can’t perform a parry or a block is when their weapon flashes red. This indicates that it’s a Heavy Attack, and you should use a dodge instead.
Another way to stagger an opponent to secure an open window is to break their guard. You can break their guard by using a Heavy Attack when they are blocking. This is a slower move, but it deals more damage to them and, most of the time, staggers them. Once they are staggered, follow up the Heavy Attack with two Fast Attacks.
Best Combat Move Combos
Since fighting is all about timing here, you’ll want to pick and choose your moves very carefully. These are some of the best combos of moves to perform that will help you defeat your enemy. However, not all these combos will work every time. You’ll still have to choose your moments wisely and use the combo that best fits the enemy you are battling (e.g., use a break block against an opponent who blocks a lot).
- Break Block: Heavy Attack — Fast Attack — Fast Attack
- Parrying Attacks: Block/Parry — Heavy Attack — Fast Attack — Fast Attack
- Dodging Attacks: Dodge — Dodge — Fast Attack — Fast Attack
Keep an eye on your opponent at all times. All enemies will have a pattern of moves, and you can use that pattern to know precisely when to dodge, when to block, and when to hit back. You can switch up any of the combos to fit the enemies’ pattern, adding and taking out moves as necessary. Sometimes, the voices in your head will also indicate different moves you should make, so use them to your advantage.
