The Ichthyosaur in Ark: Survival Ascended is one of the best early-game water creatures to tame due to its passive nature and ability to protect you against other creatures lurking in the waters. They are essential on The Crater map as they’re needed to tame another important water dinosaur. Here’s how to tame an Ichthyosaur in Ark: Survival Ascended.
How to Tame Ichthyosaurs in Ark: Survival Ascended
If you played Ark: Survival Evolved, you’ll be happy to know that the Ichthyosaur’s behavior and taming methods in Ascended are similar. If not, don’t worry because the taming process is straightforward, and you’ll have your own Ichthyosaur in no time. First, you’ll need to make yourself a full set of scuba gear so you can stay underwater for long periods of time.
However, it is important for you to know that your character in Ascended will be slower than in Evolved. So, before you attempt to tame an Ichthyosaur, you’ll want to build an underwater taming enclosure with a roof. Doing so will save you a lot of hassle, as the Ichthyosaur will flee after it eats some of the food you provide during the taming process. While it will return to you when it is hungry again, luring it into your underwater taming enclosure and locking it up can prevent anything wrong from happening to you or the Ichthyosaur while taming it, especially since you won’t be able to match its speed should the need arise.
After you have lured the Ichthyosaurus into your pen, you only need to put Dodo Kibble or Raw Meat in your hotbar and tap the associated key to feed it. While the Dodo Kibble is the most effective food to feed it, any Raw Meat (not Fish Meat) will also work. Avoid using Fish Meat because it has a slower taming rate than Raw Meat, so it is best to avoid it.
