Where to Find Iris of Occultation in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree

The Iris of Occultation is a key item in getting some awesome rewards in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree.

If you want all of the hundreds of hidden rewards in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, you’re going to need an item called the Iris of Occultation. A dark thing that steals Grace from its victims, the two you can find in the Realm of Shadow are key to getting a pair of items you can earn no other way. Here’s where you can find both Iris of Occultation items.

The first Iris of Occultation is pretty easy to find, though it’s a bit out of the way. If you entered the Scadu Altus via Castle Ensis and defeated Rellana, Twin Moon Knight, you’ll need to head southeast of the Highroad Cross, along the path south of Moorth Ruins, to the Fort of Reprimand. You’ll get there via a cave south of a Ghostflame Dragon fighting a group of Messmer’s soldiers and black knights.

If you took the shortcut to Scadu Altus, you’ll already be in the Fort of Reprimand, and you’ll need to travel very briefly northwest to reach the central square.

The path to the Iris of Occultation is straightforward. Make your way to the central area of the Fort where the gallows sit. Kill or avoid any enemies (mostly Omen Killers) you encounter, and look for a well in an alcove on the northeast end of the plaza.

Shortly after jumping down into the pit, you should encounter an Omen Killer hiding around the corner. Kill it and pick up the item it drops. That’s the first Iris of Occultation.

Second Iris of Occulation Location in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree

Reaching the second Iris of Occultation is a bit more complicated. First, you need to make your way to the Church District of the Shadow Keep in Scadu Altus (don’t worry, more nouns are on the way). I only know of one main way to get there. You need to head through a small opening on a balcony nestled in the eastern corner of Moorth Ruins.

There, you’ll drop down past a church and through a cave at the bottom level, then travel east through Bonny Village, then follow the path north until you can see the large passage leading west into the Shadow Keep.

Once in the Church District, you need to drain the water. To do that, platform across the rooftops until you reach a building with some of the roof missing. Drop down carefully onto the rafters, then onto the safe platforms below it, and continue until you reach a long, curved hallway with Fire Knights patrolling it.

Take the first doorway that opens on your left and walk the platform until you reach the area with bats to your left. Navigate said bats and beware of any holes in the path, then go up a ladder to a massive lever overlooking the district. Use it to drain the water.

With the water drained, grab the Grace in the ruined church, then head to the northwest portion of the area. There, you’ll encounter one of two Ulcerated Tree Spirits that’ll pop out of the ground. Kill it for the second Iris of Occultation.

How to Use the Iris of Occultation in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree

There are two instances where you need the Iris of Occultation, and both involve NPC quests. The first time I found to use the Iris was after finding the Prayer Room Key. Provided FIre Knight Queelign is in the Prayer Room, you can use the Iris to cause him to go blind, destroying his entire worldview and robbing him of the will to live. For this heinous act on a horrid person, you’re awarded Queelign’s Greatsword. You monster.

The other time you can use the Iris is at the end of Ymir and Jolan’s questline in the Church of Manus Metyr. After you defeat Metyr, Mother of Fingers, return to the Church and defeat both Jolan’s invasion and Ymir when he appears as a boss. You’ll get Ymir’s items right away, but to get Jolan’s, return to her lying against her pillar. There, you can use the Iris of Occultation to rob her of sight, but rather than be sad, she’s elated and dies happy, leaving behind her Sword of Knight, the latest in a long line of Miyazaki Edgy Katanas (TM).

In short, if you want weapons from dying NPCs, you use the Iris of Occultation. Its sister item, the Iris of Grace, turns both NPCs into Spirit Ashes, though I’d much prefer the weapons myself.

Either way, you now know where to find both Iris of Occultation Items in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. They are but one of many different ways to get rewards in the game, a world almost as big as the original experience.
