Cipher, also known as Meme Points, is arguably the most precious resource in Once Human. Without it, you literally cannot progress through the game. Thankfully, there are two surefire ways of acquiring it. One is quick but finite; the other is slow and steady.

The Two Best Ways of Getting Cipher in Once Human

The first way is to complete seasonal goals, which offer a large sum but are finite. The second method is to level up and get ciphers that way. It’s much slower and offers way fewer ciphers, but it’s a surefire way of securing some ciphers, so it’s not that bad.

Complete Seasonal Goals

Doing seasonal goals is undeniably the fastest way to earn cipher, as most of the tasks take only a couple of minutes at most, and you don’t even have to do them all to unlock all the rewards; you just have to do enough to complete the three tiers.

There are four categories of tasks to choose from:

• Territory – Tasks that you do on your territory (building, cooking, crafting, etc.).
• Exploration – Tasks that you accomplish by exploring the world (unlocking new teleportation towers, traveling a certain distance, etc.).
• Secure – Tasks related to deviants (capturing a certain amount, using their powers a certain amount of times, etc.).
• Challenges – Unique tasks (use x to kill x amount of deviants, etc.).

If you do these actively, it shouldn’t take you more than a couple of hours to unlock all three tiers of rewards.

Do Tasks and Level Up

Doing tasks is one of the best ways to level up fast in Once Human. They offer the most bang per buck experience-wise and are a good source of entertainment and loot. The only issue with them is that they generally take a lot longer than the previous method, so if you desperately need ciphers, exhaust the other method before starting this one.

Quick Tip: Don’t Waste Ciphers on Useless Memetics

Certain upgrades in the tech tree are downright useless and should be avoided at all costs. For example, the entire defensive line in the building tech tree can be skipped as it’s practically redundant. All you have to do is place your territory away from enemy concentrations, and you won’t ever need defenses for your homestead.

Additionally. If you’re part of a hive, coordinate with your hive members and see what role they need you to fill. That way, you can specialize in a single thing rather than waste points trying to be a jack of all trades.
