“Offense brings the audience, and defense brings the trophies” is a known saying in team sports, and this is especially true in (American) football. If you’re just starting out in Madden 25, you might need some defensive tips to try and stop the opponent from scoring and tip the scales.

Best Defense Tips for Madden 25
Setting up offense and defense in Madden may seem like rocket science at first, but it’s not very complicated once you play a number of matches and get into the flow of the game. Here are some beginner tips on how to defend in Madden 25:
- Know your roster’s individual stats. If you ask them to do something they’re not good at, it might backfire.
- Make sure to have decent cornerbacks (CB) and a great safety player. They are the line of defense that does the most and can intercept passes, chase down, and tackle the opponent’s quarterback (QB), etc.
- If you identify a potential hole in your defense that the opponent can exploit, you could actually personally make sure that the hole is fixed rather than watch your AI-controlled teammates fail and grant the opponent a 1st down or, in the worst-case scenario, a touchdown. It’s always better to take responsibility personally.
- Speaking of touchdowns, if a game has a pretty close result, the opponent may decide not to punt after a touchdown for one point but rather carry the ball in for two points and try to get a good tiebreaker. Be on the lookout for such surprise strategies.
- Experiment with different formations and learn to read the offense positions. With experience, you will learn to recognize what attack options can happen from certain offense positions, and it will make it easier for you to set up your own defenses. It’s not something that anyone can learn overnight, so do not worry if you need time to get everything right.
