Sins II recently made its way to Steam after its nearly two-year exclusivity on Epic Games. And because of Ironclad Games’ stance on platform neutrality, Sins II does not have Steam Workshop support integrated just yet. If you want to install Sins of a Solar Empire 2 mods, you’ll have to use alternative ways. Here’s how.
How to Install Sins 2 Mods Automatically – By Using Mod.io
Mod.io is currently the only way to install Sins of a Solar Empire 2 mods automatically. It works similarly to Steam’s Workshop. Simply find the specific mod you’re looking for and hit subscribe to download. The site will then automatically download and install the mod for you.
To use the site, you’ll have to first create an account on it and link it with the platform you have Sins 2 installed on. Mod.io works with both Steam and Epic Games, so you shouldn’t have any issues with either of the platforms. To delete mods, simply unsubscribe from them on the site and it’ll delete them automatically.
How to Install Sins 2 Mods Manually
There are two ways to install Sins 2 mods manually, the old-school way and by using Greed. Here’s how both of those work.
The Old-School Way of Installing Sins 2 Mods
Installing Sins 2 mods manually takes a bit more work, but it’s the only way to install Sins 2 mods that aren’t on Mod.io yet or mods that Greed can’t process. To start the process, go to the options screen in-game and find the Mods tab. Once you’re there, click on the “Show Mod Path” button and it’ll take you to the game’s mod folder.
Once you’re in there, simply paste the mod you want to install into the mods folder. To activate the mods, use a text editor and change the following lines.
- TXT
- Version “x” – input the right game version here
- enableModNameCount 1 – or however many mods you want to enable
- enableModName “mod name”
The Greed Method
Greed is a handy third-party mod manager that can automatically install Sins 2 mods for you. It’s not a true “automatic installer” or a true “manual install” as you still have to input the correct mod folder for it to do its thing.
It’s also important to mention that Greed might not recognize certain mods if they’re not packed correctly, meaning you’ll have to use the manual install method detailed above if you want to play those specific mods.
