Guidance is one of the most important mechanics in Black Myth Wukong, as it allows you to absorb the spirits of the defeated enemies and use their forms in combat. In this guide, I’ll explain what Guidance is in Black Myth Wukong and how to use it properly.
Black Myth Wukong: How to Use Guidance
In short, the Guidance mechanic allows players to temporarily take the form of or summon powerful foes they have defeated. This happens when you absorb spirits from defeated enemies, although this skill may not be unlocked at the early stages of the game. That’s the reason why you might encounter the following message on your screen: “Cannot absorb Spirits without Guidance.”
To make this happen and actually start using Guidance, you need to travel to the Bamboo Grove by following these steps:
- Defeat the Wandering Wight boss.
- Continue to the Snake Trail location.
- Arrive at the second Keeper’s Shrine in Bamboo Grove.
After climbing some stone steps near this shrine, you must speak to an NPC, a strange calligrapher that players encounter after defeating the boss Lingxuzi in Chapter One, who will finally grant you the ability to absorb spirits and use Guidance to take on their shapes. By interacting with this calligrapher, you can upgrade your blessed gourd, but do note that you’re still going to be able to absorb the spirits of only certain enemies, while some may leave no spirits behind.
When this is done, you can equip different spirits in your inventory. This allows you to switch between them as needed, although you must rest at a shrine to refresh this ability, which then becomes extremely useful in various combat situations.
