NPCs in Black Myth Wukong are found all over the world, but wouldn’t it be easier if they could all share the same hub area? That’s exactly what the Painted Realm is for. Once unlocked, this item/location will act as a neutral ground for all merchant NPCs to congregate and offer their services. Here’s how to unlock the Painted Realm and Grow Seeds in Black Myth: Wukong.
Unlocking the Painted Realm in Black Myth: Wukong
To unlock the Painted Realm, you first need to have advanced far enough in the story. The last NPC needed to create this location, the dragon Chen Loong, is found near the North Shore of the Bitter Lake shrine, below the giant turtle’s head. Explore the shore near this location until you have found him. If you need more help, try looking for a wooden building on the northern shore of the lake.
Once you get close enough, Chen Loong will try to attack you. It’s not clear why he tries to attack you, since he needs your help. After defeating him, Chen Loong will ask you to recover a miraculous pill from the appropriately named pharmacist wolf, Xu Dog.
To find Xu Dog, you’ll need to go back to Chapter 2.
Unlocking Xu Dog’s Celestial Medicines
Xu Dog is found in Chapter 2 of Black Myth: Wukong, and you have probably already seen him. If you haven’t, he’s first found next to the giant frog boss, near the Village Entrance shrine. If you look down from this location, you’ll see a shallow but wide pond. Right behind the pond is where you’ll find Xu Dog. Apparently, the frog has stolen his formulas, and he can’t create medicine without it. Recover the formulas by killing the nearby giant frog and bringing them back to him.
At this point, Xu Dog will go back to his laboratory, if you can call it that. This location is known as the Cellar, and is found a way below the Crouching Tiger boss arena. You shouldn’t have any problem finding it if you just retrace your steps following the Tiger Vanguard boss battle.
Talk to Xu Dog and he’ll immediately understand your plight: Chen Loong needs his special medicine. Xu Dog will then give you some kind of special-made tonic. It’s not quite the life-saving medicine you were asked for, but it works. Give this pill to Chen Loong and he’ll create the Painted Realm.
To access the Painted Realm, either use the item called Ruyi Scroll in your inventory or move here by using the shrine’s fast travel system.
What to Do in the Painted Realm
The Painted Realm allows you to interact with every merchant NPC in the same location, but it also unlocks two exclusive characters. One is Chen Loon, which is now available to grow your seeds into medicine material. The other is the blacksmith, who can sell crafting materials and improve the defense value of your armor.
The blacksmith can also be challenged to a duel to acquire a transformation spell, the Ebon Flow spell, which lets you temporarily turn into the blacksmith.
