The Best Contracts You Can Do in Star Wars Outlaws

There are two main reasons to do contracts in Star Wars Outlaws: for credits, loot, or faction reputation. Between them, faction reputation is a much more important metric. First and foremost, you won’t be getting easy access to some of the rarer ship upgrade materials without at least Good reputation, and the black market merchants are locked behind Good reputation, as well. That means picking the right contracts is incredibly important, and the only ones you want to focus on are those that give three arrows of reputation increase.

Here’s why you should always pick three-rank contracts: the main story and larger side missions often have as much reputation loss from the faction you displease as they give positive reputation for the one you support. Contracts have no such downsides, meaning you can effectively play the factions like fiddles, displeasing one group, and then immediately doing a tier-three for them to almost equalize the rep loss. Note that tier-three contracts do not reward as much reputation as a main or larger side mission, but they come close.

The next decision you need to make is who is best to increase first, and the answer is pretty simple: get the Pyke Syndicate to max reputation first. Not only do their merchants have access to a lot of good materials for the best ship upgrades, but the clothes you can get to reach max rep with the Pykes give a massive bonus to your stealth abilities in Imperial territory. That’s because, well, they look like Imperial uniforms. Getting on the Pyke’s good side also helps with the early game, and several of the early quests take place in their territory.

The second faction you should level is the Crimson Dawn. They have a major presence on Kajimi, one of the three main story planets, and the first one the game suggests for you. They control two districts there and another few large ones on Toshara. You’ll also need Good reputation with the Dawn to access their black market smuggler, who is adamant that he only talks to friends.

All this is not to say you should ignore lower-tier contracts if they’re all you can find. But as you visit more planets, cantinas, and locations, you’ll unlock enough contract vendors that finding at least one tier three shouldn’t be too hard. Should a tier-one or tier-two offer a much better credit reward or have a particularly juicy bit of loot, there’s nothing wrong with completing it for the money and gear upgrades. Just make sure you focus on tier threes as they appear and as you need them to bring low rep back up.
