Let’s Play Defiance – Part 1 – Beta Impressions

Thus far, Defiance has shown great ambition met with acceptable execution.

My plan is to take you on my journey through Defiance on Xbox 360. This Part One (of sorts) is designed to give you a look at my experience with the closed beta. I will be releasing follow-on pieces about my experience that I hope will show the evolution of the Defiance game experience.

Getting Started

The Defiance beta on 360 started off an absolute mess. The first night was barely playable. If you could get access to the servers, what you were served with was broken enemy engagement mixed with quests that would not let you complete them. However, if you decided to persevere, you were treated to a highly ambitious MMO-Shooter-RPG mash-up with deep character progression and quest lines that were actually fun to complete.

I’m now several hours into the game and enjoying it greatly. Stay tuned for Part Two where I plan to show how intuitive the quests are along with some tips to circumvent quests that break during play.
