Hearthstone, the popular collectible card game with a World of Warcraft theme by Blizzard, may be receiving a new expansion on July 22.
PCGamer received a small scroll through the post this morning. When opened, it played a trumpet fanfare and read:
“Champions are gathering from around the world to witness the next exciting thing Hearthstone has in store. News travels far and wide in search of brave new faces ready to answer the call to arms — Are you one of them? Muster for battle and mark July 22 on your calendar. The next bit of news won’t come by carrier pigeon — thankfully, we have much better ways of communication now. Victory awaits.”
The scroll PCGamer received
This could well be the release date for a new expansion, or it could be an infamous announcement of an announcement. Either way, new Hearthstone content will be welcomed with open arms.
PCGamer also note that the trumpet fanfare is nearly identical to the theme for the Argent Tournament, an event from the Wrath of the Lich King expansion for World of Warcraft, which implies the upcoming expansion will have an Argent theme.
This isn’t the first time Blizzard have teased an expansion this way, with a Demolisher blueprint also sent to PCGamer to tease the Goblins vs Gnomes card expansion which released late last year.
A Death Knight hero class is a popular opinion over on Reddit, while other users are hoping for a new tournament mode, although the recent release of Tavern Brawl deems it unlikely. Personally, I’m happy for any new content as I’m still new to the game and can only just break level 20.
Reddit seems sold on the idea of a Death Knight hero
Blizzard tends to alternate releases between adventure expansions such as Curse of Naxxramas and card sets like Goblins vs Gnomes. As Blackrock Mountain was the last expansion and fell under the adventure category, it’s looking fairly likely this expansion will be a brand new expansion card set.
This news comes just a few weeks after alternate hero Magni Bronzebeard was announced and released.
