Within two weeks of Fallout Shelter’s launch, Bethesda Softworks has already earned over $5.1 million, giving them a large reputation with respect in the AppStore among their competitors.
Fallout Shelter’s Purchase System
Fallout Shelter is a free-to-play game on the iOS AppStore, but has offered purchases in-app that give you a slight advantage while developing your vault. Being a simulation game where you run a vault while the world is a giant wasteland, the purchases are for the rare Lunchbox feature that is also obtainable through completing the achievements that are randomized. Though most of the time you’ll gain Bottlecaps from these achievements, some also offer Lunchboxes, which contain rare characters and items.
The In-App Purchases
There are only a few in-app purchases available for Fallout Shelter and they are:
- Lunchbox – $0.99
- 5 Lunchboxes – $3.99
- 15 Lunchboxes – $9.99
- 40 Lunchboxes – $19.99
The future of Fallout Shelter
Fallout Shelter has made a huge amount of revenue and over 70 million downloads on the AppStore already and will launch on Android devices next month in August, making this game available to everyone. Despite the fact they’ve made such a large sum of money off of the AppStore, it is a large possibility this number will jump higher with their Android release.
What are your impressions of Fallout Shelter? I’ve personally had troubles with the game crashing on my iPod.
