Rise of the Tomb Raider has finally been officially announced for PS4 and PC, with 2016 release windows for both versions.
The PC version of the game will release in “early 2016”, while the PS4 version won’t release until Holiday 2016. The PS4 version is released later than the PC because the console exclusivity with Microsoft is valid for a year. This PS4 release date was recently rumoured by Youtube channel The Know.
It’s interesting that Square Enix would announce the other release dates just 4 months before the game’s exclusive fall launch on Xbox One. Announcing a release date for other platforms only hurts potential Xbox One sales. It’s also worth noting that it seems like the game will indeed release this fall and compete with Fallout 4, which we believe is a huge mistake. However, should it be delayed into 2016, that means the PS4 version will also be delayed into 2017.
Rise of the Tomb Raider was revealed at E3 2014, but it was a full year before we got a glimpse of gameplay. Microsoft showed a lengthy gameplay demo at E3 2015 before announcing a November 10th release date – the same day as Fallout 4.
