Microsoft will unveil the details about their next generation on May 21. Rumors abound that the new console (previously nicknamed the 720) will be called Xbox Infinity, or simply The XBox.
More exciting than naming rumors is the word that the new Xbox will feature a touchpad, similar to the one planned for the PS4. Its supposed specs feature a 1.6GHz 8core AMD processor, 800MHz graphics processor, a Blu-ray drive, and 8GB of RAM.
One sticking point in release news is the possibility of the Xbox requiring a constant Internet connection during play as a form of DRM, though recent reports suggest this won’t be the case for all games, and merely given as an option for game publishers. The rumor reached it’s most heated when Microsoft game director Adam Orth made a comment about “every device now is ‘always on.'”, which led to a large Twitter flame war and culminated in Orth resigning. The DRM debate is one that will have to play out over the next few months.
Rumors put the XBox’s release price around $299 with a pre-Christmas release date. Hopefully more information will be released on May 21, when the console is unveiled.
