At Metrocon 2015, Nolan North slipped that Naughty Dog might be working on a Last of Us sequel. Naughty Dog denies the rumors, although they admit that they would love to revisit the hugely successful game.
Nolan North’s slip up might be interpreted as out of context. He was answering a question regarding if he had any other projects in the works with Naughty Dog. His response: “For now, last one.” but continues with, “I know they’re doing a Last of Us 2 but my character in Last of Us kind of had an untimely demise.”
It seems pretty literal and without context still means the same thing. However, although North has the insider scoop, IGN suggests that he may have been mistaken.
Neil Druckmann of Naughty Dog told Gamesradar that they were in fact thinking about starting work on a sequel, perhaps. Although, nothing is “underway” for The Last of Us, Naughty Dog is currently working on Uncharted 4 set to release March 16, 2016. Druckmann does offer a glimpse of hope for a Last of Us sequel, explaining that maybe a few months after Uncharted 4’s release, they might begin work on the rumoured sequel.
Although there’s a lot of talk around the water cooler about a sequel, its best we hold tight and wait to hear the rumors circulating closer to the time of Uncharted 4‘s release. Nolan North might know of the “talk” happening around Naughty Dog’s projects right now, but Druckmann insists that it’s just that–talk.
