Well you did ask for something besides COD zombies…
Yesterday, NeoGaf user Jibbajabbawockky reported filling out an online survey for Battlefield 4, similar in format to the Dragon Age 3 survey from last year.
Questions included information on the possible developments of the new title: Battlelog 2.0 with the ability to schedule matches with friends, increased dynamic environments (e.g. flooding the battlefield by blowing out dam foundations), and naval combat (jet skis and gunboats).
All nifty stuff, all very in line with what I recall of the (one) BF3 quick survey I’ve filled out in the past. So far, all stuff I can accept with relative ease.
Then came the dinosaurs.
According to Jibbajabbawockky, DLC package descriptions got a mention in this possibilities-laden survey:
“The first one was described as taking Operation Metro and Caspian Border and remaking them in Frostbite 3, with new weapons and classes. Then they had you rank possible names for the DLC pack. I don’t recall all of them but some were: Battlefield 4 Recommisioned, BF4 Reenlisted, BF4 War Torn, and BF4 Reconstructed.
Second one was a DLC that would focus on naval combat with more naval vehicles and coastal batteries. It wasn’t super specific, just that it would focus on naval combat. Possible names (that I remember now) were: BF4 Naval Warfare (or maybe it was Naval combat?), BF4 Steel Titans and some other ones that I’m forgetting.
The third DLC description was the most interesting: DINOSAURS! From what I recall, it was described as a coop mode where you and other players would fight against dinosaurs with primitive weapons, specifically mentioning a bow and arrow. Possible names were: BF4: BC, BF4: Primal Combat (or maybe it was Primal Warfare?), BF4: 21942 BC and some other one that was something like BF4: Dino… something. Can’t recall.”
What? Really?
Let’s take this with a grain of salt now. (Dinosaurs, dinosaurs, dinosaurs!) That is a lot, and I mean a lot of information to stick into one little online survey. Which isn’t to say that it’s not possible… I’ve filled out other surveys for game companies in the past which have gone into exhaustive detail in order to ask for feedback. But the user also admits to saving no screenshots of the survey content. Who’s to know?
Thread replies run the gamut from surprise (dinosaurs, dinosaurs, dinosaurs!) to disbelief, but the general consensus seems to run high to “gee, that would be awesome.” Well maybe it would be, in that crazy kind of over-the-top slapstick way. Maybe Battlefield 4 is taking a leaf out of Far Cry 3’s book. Maybe dinos are the new zombies.
…Maybe I’m going to reconsider that pre-order.
