First off, I live in the United States of America, the land of the free and home of the not so smart. However, at least we have intelligence to react accordingly to the announcement of a brutal collector’s edition of a game targeted to a mature audience. I know this is old news, but the subject didn’t get under my skin until I had received my copy of Dead Island: Riptide Zombie Bait Edition. When announced, Deep Silver had gotten a lot of negative reactions from their fans. The problem at had is a bust of a dismembered female.
It’s not like this is a Super Mario Brothers Collectors Edition where the contents are as follows; Super Mario Brothers game, a centerfold of Princess Peach wearing nothing but nipple tassels and a leaf over certain parts of her body. The steelbook art is Mario knocking an eyeball out of a Koopa’s face. The most precious part of this collectors edition is the statue of Bowser disemboweling Yoshi with his razor sharp teeth. By the way, don’t forget to pick this awesome set up for your six year old; he or she will love it.
I didn’t realize how large the bust actually is though. The pictures just don’t do any justice. I am glad that I was able to add this piece to my collection and that despite the UK negative response Deep Silver stuck to their guns, or in this case, melee weapons. A busty statue of a woman’s torso missing some limbs and flesh may not be in the best taste, but once seen in person this item was one that had no choice but to be made.
Dead Island Zombie Bait Edition in the UK is a rare piece for those of us that live in the USA. I had mine imported and got it on May 2. I was quick to move other items from my collection around to be able to display this grotesque masterpiece. This is one item that ANY fan of the game series will be sought after as time goes on.
