Insomniac Games, Developers of the well known Ratchet and Clank series, recently announced that they will be shutting down Outernauts today. The Facebook version of the game already met an untimely end and now so will the iOS and Android versions.
The day of the shut down will be on February 1, 2016. After that date the servers will be closed and cannot be played even by those who have the game. However, there is a bit of light at the end of the tunnel.
The game’s microtransactions have been removed, and Insomniac will be giving players a large amount of free Star gems which is the game’s currency. So, log on now and spend away!
Insomniac has stated that millions of people did play Outernauts across all the systems it was available since it was released in 2012. Sadly, that was not enough as the server costs started to outweigh the player count.
“We truly cannot thank our spectacular community of fans enough for helping us evolve both the browser and mobile versions of the game,” Insomniac states in a blog post, “Unfortunately, the current player count cannot keep up with the ongoing server costs. We hope you understand and it will be very hard to say goodbye. We realize there are still passionate fans playing the game daily who invested a lot into it.”
Players should note that wile Insomniac is offering players who used actual cash on the game to a chance spend their in game currency, they will not handle any requests for refunds. Outernauts was technically a free game, so refund requests much go through Google or Apple.
