Have you ever played any of The Elder Scrolls games and thought, “You know what this game needs? More demonic nightmares spawning from the pits of Hell trying to rend my flesh from my bones.”
In comes Hellraid, a game with enemies that make even the fiercest Daedra look like Care Bears. The newest IP from Techland (the guys who brought you Dead Island) shows frightening promise.
In fact, this game started out as a mod for Dead Island, so you know it will include the same gritty ‘in your face combat’ as its spiritual predecessor (although this time with magic in the mix). The guys at Techland plan to cut back on the open world Dead Island featured, in favor of smaller more focused maps.
Although this sounds like a negative, I believe they are changing the formula to create a more claustrophobic atmosphere more appropriate for the title.
Classes include Warrior, Mage, Paladin and Rogue. Each class will have their own skill trees to level, but their abilities will not be limited by their class. For example a Warrior is not limited to just his swords, but will still have the ability to cast fire balls and lightning.
The game plans to include a single-player campaign and a competitive/co-op online mode, all featured with Techland’s own Chrome Engine 5.
I personally am a big fan of Dead Island (unlike some people), so I’m eagerly awaiting more news and gameplay videos in the future. As fun as zombies are, cleaving demons in two with a claymore while zapping them with magic gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside.
Although there is no set release date, Techland plans to release Hellraid to PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 sometime this year.
