It looks like Oculus founder Palmer Luckey has started the war of words. He is certain that his Oculus Rift is higher quality than PlayStation VR, and the only choice for PC enthusiasts. Luckey’s main argument is that PlayStation VR’s technology “isn’t as high end as ours.”
He seems to be pitching towards the PC gaming crowd, as the hardware behind the Oculus Rift is only limited by the build of its gamers; where as PlayStation 4 owners are forever locked behind the capability of hardware that came out in prior years.
Luckey continued his statement, saying:
“It’s still, I think, a good headset. I think that there’s not many people who already own a PlayStation 4 who don’t own a gaming PC who are going to go out and make that roughly $1,500 all-in investment in the Rift. It really is a separate market. They’re bringing virtual reality to a different group of people who I don’t think were ever really part of our market anyway”.
Interesting choice of words. But if he’s not concerned with the market of PlayStation 4 gamers, why even make this statement anyway? Regardless of the hype and speculation, we’ll have to wait until both the Oculus Rift and PlayStation VR launch to determine if there is in fact a vast difference in quality between the two products.
