“Naptime!”
With all the graceful entry of a whale falling to earth in the company of a bowl of petunias, the announcement for the latest and last Borderlands 2 DLC was leaked by Anthony Burch earlier this month. The lead writer tweeted a picture of his friend passed out on a couch at Gearbox—with a promo banner for “Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep” displayed prominently in the background. The tweet has since been removed, but the industrious folks over at StealthyBox preserved the tweet for posterity.
And of course, the studio has had to confirm that yes, “Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep” is real and due for release on June 25.
For those of you who haven’t been on the ball since PAX East, this is just a continuation of this brilliant trailer, where the original vault hunters sit down for a game of Bunkers & Badasses (Pandora’s take on Dungeons and Dragons) with Tiny Tina as dungeonmaster, and Brick as the prettiest siren around.
If you’re already owner of a season pass, this is included, and you’ll receive this DLC on June 25. For everyone else, it’ll be $10.
Well, I’m Excited.
I admit it. I love Tiny Tina. Everything out of her mouth has been gold as far as I’m concerned… though evidently not everyone thinks so, and the character’s been called out on for racism (over-zealous and pedantic in my opinion—a white girl using terms like “badankadonks” just doesn’t equate with racism for me, and at least it doesn’t with Gearbox head Randy Pitchford either, who stepped up to defend Burch’s Tina against the Twitter onslaught).
Andy Burch has been quoted as saying, “The last thing I want to be is exclusionary or prejudiced, so if Tina truly is problematic I’ll change her,” but added, “I’m just not convinced that a character using lingo like badonkadonk/crunk is inherently racist. If I’m wrong I would like to know why.”
Whether or not this incident has affected how she’s written in the new DLC remains to be seen.
