Titanfall 2 will have a dedicated single player story mode, according to Jesse Stern. He says that the game will be “grounded, dirty, human and real”.
This is good news for fans of the first game, which was purely multiplayer focused and got criticized for its lack of a solo campaign. That said, Stern (speaking to Forbes) also stated that “the multiplayer game will be even better than it was the first time around”.
He continues:
“One of the shortcomings of the first game was we just did not have the mechanism to tell everyone ‘here’s who you are, here’s where you are and who’s around you.’ We knew all the answers, we just could not deliver it.”
The sequel is set to take inspiration from the American Revolution and Civil War but adding a futuristic, space warfare twist on them. On this topic, Stern said:
We imagined the next generation of immigrants moving out to the new frontier of an inhabitable planet. Rather than taking a traditional sci-fi approach to that we wanted to look at how that would happen practically, what the ships would look like and with machines that were designed for excavation and construction, demolition and working the land, and what happens when they are turned into instruments of war.
Although the game has not been in development for very long, the mere fact that Respawn Entertainment is looking to expand its impressive IP to include an apparently engrossing story and setting can only be a good thing.
No firm release date has been set, but EA has hinted that Titanfall 2 will be out in early 2017.
