Square Enix has recently announced that I am Setsuna will be available on July 19. Setsuna will be released simultaneously on Steam and PlayStation 4 for both Europe and North America.
Bringing back the RPGs of yesteryear
This has been the established message of the game since its announcement. Developer Tokyo RPG Factory has taken the games of the 1990s as a design model in terms of narrative focus, gameplay, music, and characterization. The games of this period include some critically acclaimed titles, such as Final Fantasy 6 and Secret of Mana. They have been referred to by the developer as “the golden era of JRPGs”. Tokyo RPG Factory took particular inspiration from 1995 title Chrono Trigger.
The story follows the young Setsuna and an emotionally charged adventure across the land. In her journey, she’ll be accompanied by the playable character Endir and others as they work together for the greater good.
If you’ve been waiting for a familiar feeling RPG designed with modern sensibilities, I am Setsuna is a title to look forward to.
