Before it was even released, Overwatch was an absolute juggernaut of a title, thanks to the body of work Blizzard has created over the years…most of which is World of Warcraft– or Starcraft-related, e.g. Heroes of the Storm, Hearthstone, etc.
And while the game itself is certainly worthy of the praise it’s receiving for its tight, frenetic gameplay, nearly infinite variation of playstyles, unique and colorful characters, and all-around fun-loving attitude, it really is the product of the best parts of a failed-MMO project at Blizzard, a dash of Team Fortress 2 and the greatest hits of every MOBA out there.
Leave it to the folks at Smosh Games and Screen Junkies to take on the juggernaut and say the hard truths about an endearing and awesome game that was so hyped they could sell Tracer underpants at this point and be even bigger millionaires. (Also, that’s my idea, the underpants, so cut me on those sweet profits, Blizzard.)
