The upcoming console from Microsoft has had its price announced formally at this year’s E3. Xbox One will be entering stores at the price of $499 dollars in the United States.
While we still don’t have a price for the PlayStation 4 likely to be the entertainment system’s primary competitor in the gaming market, finally having a price to prepare for gives Sony a target to shoot for.
The given price is not entirely unheard of in the console gaming industry. The PS3 was priced the same on its own release. What might be worth considering is that the PS3’s price was considered exorbitant at the time of its release.
Ultimately the only factor that can actually determine if something is priced too high is not even the sales of an item, but the sales of the same product after it has a drop in price. Time will tell if the Xbox One is priced too high or if the price is right where it needs to be for all involved parties.
