Developer Weird and Wry dropped The Spatials: Galactology onto Steam last week. The Early Access title is a re-imagining of the original game The Spatials which was originally released for PC back in 2015. Before that, the game actually made its start on iOS.
The new game is still in an early alpha state. There appears to still be quite a bit of placeholder art and text in the game, but the core mechanics are there and it is playable. The graphics appear much the same, but a lot has changed under the hood.
“Galactology is The Spatials re-imagined as a deeper, more rewarding simulation game.” – Weird and Wry
Gone are the procedurally generated surface cities and ruins which have been replaced by hand created versions. The exploration appears to be deeper with new enemies to blast and items to discover. The base building has also been improved with the addition of new buildings and staff. You can even build robots to take over some of the station chores.
The one thing that definitely has not changed is the game’s tongue-in-cheek take on space exploration. This is a hallmark of Weird and Wry and is quite evident in the game’s trailer.
The game can be purchased on Steam and, as of this writing, it’s going at the introductory rate of 25% off. For more details check out the official website. Have fun explorers!
