Nintendo May Offer Free 3DS or WiiU Game This Holiday

Nintendo to release new free-to-play game this fiscal year.
This article is over 11 years old and may contain outdated information

Let the speculation commence. Nintendo has announced it will be releasing a new free-to-play game this fiscal year. This means that the new game will be released by March 2014. According to analysts, it has been ruled out to be a new Mario or Pokémon game. In fact, it could literally be anything from the very large collection of IPs that Nintendo currently owns, or a completely new franchise.

No platform for the game has been announced, so while Nintendo fans wait anxiously for Wii U news, the unannounced game could be for the 3DS as well.

If done right, this new game could be a way to boost Nintendo’s lackluster DLC market, especially in the handheld space.  At this point in time, anything to generate buzz for either the 3DS or Wii U is a necessity.  With Nintendo making no big announcements in regards of Zelda or Metroid, many fans have been left with little to encourage them to continue to be loyal.  What they have been left with is yet another 4-person Mario game and an HD remake of The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker.  While these may be great games, only the most dedicated fans will be satisfied with what is being offered.  The rest of us are left trying to find a reason to keep playing Nintendo consoles, especially when both the PS4 and Xbox One are offering far more new titles this holiday season.

So what ideas do you think would be good for a new free-to-play Nintendo game?  Comment below and let us know!
