Reported by Forbes, the Last of Us has reached a whooping 1.3 million in its first week. No, those don’t even compare to Call of Duty numbers, but come on guys! This is pretty amazing for a game only launched on PlayStation 3, surpassing Bioshock Infinite’s 1.16M sales during their first week.

Bioshock’s sales were also over two platforms. That’s right. The exclusive for PS3 game beat out the combined sales of a multi-platform AAA title. Naughty Dog, a highly respected developer, could possibly be the reason why the game has gotten so popular.

The creators of the hit series Uncharted have gained the trust of the gaming world. This is needed when you’re releasing something completely new to the public. The Last of Us is a completely new and untested series. The new IP definitely leaned against the Naughty Dog name to get their own following. A pretty great idea, seeing that it worked.

With a following comes a price. With its popularity rising, does this mean that the Last of Us will have to have a sequel? I haven’t gotten to play the game but what I’ve heard is that the ending is pretty solid. There could be a chance to bring those characters back or start with new characters in the same world.

But this year isn’t over yet! With big names from Square Enix, Capcom and Ubisoft, where will the Last of Us rank when the year is over? As big name, multi-platform titles are released, I’m not sure that the Last of Us will be able to stay at the top for too long.

What do you guys think? Where will the Last of Us rank at the end of the year? If you’ve played the Last of Us would you recommend a sequel? Do you think that that would be overkill? Let me know your thoughts.

The Last of Us is available now for PlayStation 3.
