There is good chance that fans of the Wave Race series might be seeing a new title or re-release for modern Nintendo consoles — or even the Nintendo Switch — in the future.

According to the European Union Intellectual Property Office, Nintendo has trademarked Wave Race, as of Nov. 17. In the document itself, it states that the trademark is level nine, which, in trademark terms, refers to computer and technology software.

As of this writing, It is fair to point out that Nintendo itself has not released any official statements regarding the trademark, so we have yet to see what this all really means in the overall scheme of things. But, of course, we can keep our fingers crossed!

The first Wave Race came out for the Game Boy back in 1992. Later, the title received two sequels: Wave Race 64 for the Nintendo 64 in 1996, and Wave Race: Blue Storm for the GameCube in 2001.
