We’re only weeks away from the May 19th release of Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia — a new sequel to the series that will be a bit of a departure from a lot of the conventions that are notable trademarks of Fire Emblem gameplay. And Nintendo has revealed some surprising details about the DLC for this portable strategy game and how much it’s going to cost.

In an odd deviation from the company’s usual outline for DLC, all the expanded content will cost more than the price of Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia itself.

The Season Pass will retail at $44.99, guaranteeing players a total of five DLC packs that are promised to drop for the title. Opting for the pass will save you 30% of the cost for each pack à la carte.

The Fledgling Warriors Pack will be the first DLC pack available, dropping alongside Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia at the price of $7.99. This pack will contain two new maps to explore with a new dungeon to challenge.

The Unlimited Heroes pack and Lost Altars pack will both be available the following week, priced at $9.99 and $14.99 respectively. Unlimited Heroes will contain two more maps to chart and another dungeon to conquer, and it will be more challenging than the previous pack. Meanwhile, the Lost Altars pack promises to bring brand new battle classes that aren’t accessible in the core game.

The fourth DLC pack, Rise of Deliverance, will release on June 1st for $12.99. This story-intensive expansion for the game, will offer a prologue with new maps and characters that were previously unplayable in the base game.

There aren’t currently many details about the fifth and final pack for Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia. All we know for now is that it will cost $5.99, and more info of this mystery pack is sure to come later.

While the difference in cost might sound a bit disparaging to some fans, the loads upon loads of fresh content seems to add value to it price of admission. And the à la carte option for each pack might also alleviate the sting that the Season Pass leaves in players’ wallets if they don’t want to get every single pack.

Which of these packs look most interesting to you? Are you planning to pick up the Season Pass for Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, or is the price just a bit too hard to swallow? Let us know in the comments!
