At E3 this past week, IGN had an exclusive interview with Nintendo of America President, Reggie Fils-Aime, where he shared Nintendo’s future plans for the 3DS — particularly, the fact that the company still plans to support its handheld console and provide new content for it well into 2018.
According to Fils-Aime:
“The way we continue to make Nintendo 3DS vibrant as a platform is first we continue to innovate from form factor standpoint. So the New 2DS XL is just the latest for us in having form factor innovation.”
Fils-Aime continued to share the strategies his company knows will work for the 3DS. Offering different colors and changes in screen sizes has continued to be a major factor of success for the 3DS as well as the 2DS.
Not only were tech innovation and variation discussed, but the interview also addressed what makes owning any gaming device worth it — the games:
“We’re going to continue to bring new content, and that’s what’s going to keep this device vibrant and keep it going well into 2018 and beyond.
New content will continue to be released to the 3DS. Although the Switch has gained a tremendous amount of publicity and attention, Nintendo will stand by its previous handhelds as well.
