In 1996 Atlus debuted its Shin Megami Tensei: Persona series to Japan with massive success, then slowly gained fame in the US in the early part of the 2000’s. The series, simply known simply as Persona by fans, has gained a considerable following around the world. Now the long-awaited fifth entry in the core series presumably called Persona 5 may be getting closer to being revealed.

NeoGAF discovered a WHOIS registry for “persona5.jp.” What makes this significant is that it’s registered to the Index Corporation, the parent company of series developer and publisher Atlus. So this makes this registration look a lot more legitimate than the persona5.com registration, which could also be owned by a middleman on behalf of Atlus.

(If this makes sense to you, this is the Index Corporation’s registration of persona5.jp.)

Rumors about Persona 5 began emerging back in 2009. It wasn’t until 2011 that Atlus confirmed Persona 5 itself was in development. All has been quiet on the front since. Persona 4 was the last core game to be released in the series in 2008 on the PlayStation 2. Persona 4 Arena, a fighting game, was released in 2012, and the first four were re-released on PSP and PS Vita with Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden.

No word on which console Persona 5 will début on. with the exception of the first game, Persona has always been a Playstation exclusive. However, the developer Atlus has been going multi-platform lately with games like Catherine and, most recently, Persona 4 Arena.
