Now that 2017 has come and gone, it’s a good time to study mobile data to understand future trends. With over 450,000 apps that emerged last year for U.S. iOS users, the largest category for apps is first and foremost games.
According to data from tech startup AppBi, a company dedicated to mobile marketing and analysis, 19.7% of apps on the current store are mobile games. This overtakes the 10.7% of business-based apps and the 9.1% of lifestyle-based apps. Games still dominate the market, and interested developers should take note.
This is also true for the most-used keywords of the year. As shown below, the the top three keywords used by apps were “Free”, “Games”, and “Game”. Considering the strong usage of free-to-play mechanics in many mobile titles, it isn’t surprising.
What do you think about this data? Is it surprising to you, or nothing special? Do you think 2018 will change things? Leave your comments below!
