Premiering in April of 2011, Mortal Kombat: Legacy was a live-action, nine episode web series based on the world and characters of Mortal Kombat. The initial season acted as a prequel to the Mortal Kombat game, telling the stories of the characters before they entered the titular tournament. The dialogue and situations were occasionally cheesy, but I found it an entertaining series. The action was good and I had fun seeing the different takes on each character. I recommend watching it if you are a fan of Mortal Kombat, despite the flaws it had.
The new season picks up where the last season left off, with the Mortal Kombat Tournament. Since focus is on the tournament, there will be more brutal fights and a focus on the iconic fatalities. The characters featured in the second season of Mortal Kombat: Legacy were confirmed in a panel at Comic-Con. The new characters are Ermac, Liu Kang, Kung Lao, and Kenshi. The announcement itself is a bit odd, since these characters were all revealed in the season 2 trailer, released back in February. It is likely the creators merely wanted to confirm that these characters were indeed to be featured. The panel also featured a sneak peek at a fight that would take place in the new season, involving Johnny Cage, Mileena, and Kitana.
On a sadder note, it was also confirmed that Jeri Ryan would not be reprising her role as Sonya Blade due to a busy schedule, but the creators expressed hope that she would return as Sonya for a third season.
The second season of Mortal Kombat: Legacy will premier this fall on Machinima, and they certainly won’t have to tell me twice to “get over here!” If you haven’t watched the first season, I recommend you check it out before the second season starts. I’m ready for it. Are you?
