EA Labels president, Frank Gibeau, remembered the game’s rough launch at the end of March.  The game was considered a reboot of the classic series and prior to release, it received generally positive reviews. Unfortunately, technical problems mostly related to the need for internet and network connection caused a largely negative reception.

Gibeau said that the rocky first week was an “experience nobody wants to live through again.” According to Gibeau EA is “lucky” to have devoted fans that remained loyal to the game’s franchise.

Gibeau and EA see SimCity as a positive experience, as well as a learning experience. The feedback that players have provided has proved to be invaluable. It directly influenced the decision to make the upcoming, The Sims 4, an offline game. Gibeau had this to say,

“In the spring, we dropped our online pass program for consoles–both next-generation and current-generation. We listened to the feedback on SimCity and decided that The Sims 4 would be built as a single-player, offline experience.”

More information on The Sims 4 will be revealed at Gamescom later this year.

The Sims 4 is due to release sometime in 2014.
