Nintendo has just announced that a Pokemon Direct will be held on Wednesday, February 27 at 9 a.m. EST/6 a.m. PST. The Direct will be approximately seven minutes long, and it will reveal brand new information.
This Direct will coincide with Pokemon Day 2019, and it is expected that it will reveal the new core Pokemon RPG, which is scheduled to release in 2019. Since the Direct will only be seven minutes long, it is possible that a small reveal trailer and some initial details on the game will be the bulk of its content.
The new core Pokemon RPG was announced to be in development during a Pokemon Direct last year. Since then, information about the game has been scarce. In fact, the only confirmed details are that the game is a true new generation of Pokemon, with a full breadth of mechanics and features, and it will introduce a roster of brand new Pokemon.
Meltan and Melmetal are the first of the new Pokemon expected to be in this game, and they were previously revealed through Pokemon Go and Pokemon Let’s Go. Since their reveal, there has been no further new information relating to the new game.
The first Pokemon RPGs to release on the Switch, Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Pokemon Let’s Go Eevee, represented a big departure for the series. Specifically, they featured more simplified Pokemon Go-inspired gameplay elements, which left some fans disappointed with the games.
The developers may have expected this, because, along with the reveal of Pokemon Let’s Go, The Pokemon Company announced that a new generation of Pokemon was also on the way. Since then, the excitement among fans has been palpable, as this will be the first full-fledged mainline Pokemon title for the Nintendo Switch. For these fans, the upcoming Direct is certain to be an exciting event.
The announcement of the Pokemon Direct can be found on Twitter.
