The Numbers Game: Xbox One vs PS4

Where are you investing your money in the next gen war?
This article is over 11 years old and may contain outdated information

When it comes down to the next gen war, a huge factor that I’m weighing is in the numbers. Which system will give me more bang for my buck? I know that it’s on everyone’s mind.

When you play the game of numbers, you win or you die.

Okay, maybe not that serious but it seems like a huge nail in the Xbox One coffin was the price. A lot of people have complained that Xbox One’s $499.99 price tag is just way too expensive for what they are offering. I honestly don’t think the $499.99 price is that bad, but when you add all the other add ons, they are really pushing it.

The Xbox One does not include a headset and Microsoft will be selling one for only $24.99. Not a big deal, right? Well lets factor in the rest of the costs.

It has recently been announced that the Xbox 360 controllers will not be compatible with the Xbox One. Extra controllers for multiplayer games are $59.99. Ouch. The Xbox One has officially entered a price range that I’m not comfortable entering. How about we crunch the numbers.

$499.99+$24.99+$59.99 = $584.97 +tax (or way too much in simpler terms).

The PS4 isn’t too far off.

The PS4 doesn’t come with a camera, so tack on that and a $59.99 charge for an extra controller (the same price as the Xbox One). Adding those together will get you around $520 for the PS4.

Honestly, if you are frugal like me you won’t even be taking a second glance at the Xbox One. The fact that I’ll need to pay close to $600 to play Borderlands with all my friends or online is ridiculous. Now I’m not saying that I would only play Borderlands, but I just don’t think the price is worth it when there is so much more I could afford with the PS4 or sticking with my PC.

So, what are you going to spend all that money on? Will the Xbox One be worth the almost $600 investment?
