After being leaked earlier in the day, team-based multiplayer shooter Overwatch was officially revealed for the Nintendo Switch during the most recent Nintendo Direct.
The game will launch for the system on October 15. It was not revealed if it would see a physical release or simply be available on the eShop. However, since the previous leaks came from retailers, it seems as if a physical release is in the cards.
It was confirmed that the Switch version of Overwatch would employ gyroscopic controls, joining other shooters on the system, such as Fortnite, Wolfenstein, and Doom, that employ the control scheme.
Overwatch initially released for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One on May 24, 2016. The popular first-person shooter is developed by Blizzard and has enjoyed immense success in its three years on the market. Since launch, the game has seen its popularity rise to extreme heights, specifically in the realm of esports.
To date, Overwatch has generated more than $1 billion for Blizzard from in-game sales alone. That does not include the $1 billion it made between its combined game sales and microtransaction sales as of 2017, which was the last year available for data.
