In spite of Ellie’s face pasted on every Best Buy wall and six weeks at the top of the UK charts, it looks like Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us has stepped down from the Number 1 spot for good. Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition has managed to swipe its crown, seeing a 74% increase in sales in its fifth week at retail.
And while you might think that The Last of Us has a fighting chance to claw back to first while sitting at a comfortable Number 2, well, you’d be wrong. The action-adventure survival horror has actually slipped down to third place, lagging behind Wii U exclusive Pikmin 3.
The highly anticipated Pikmin title is now the highest-charting Wii U exclusive thus far—good news indeed for Nintendo in a time where Amazon UK is selling off their stock of Wii U’s at firesale prices. In fact, Nintendo rounds out 3 out of the UK Top 10 with 3DS titles Animal Crossing: New Leaf at Number 4 and Mario & Luigi: Dream Team at Number 5. Newly released New Super Luigi U almost made the list, sitting at Number 13.
According to CfK Chart-Track:
Top 10 UK Software Sales (All Formats); week ending July 27:
- Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition
- Pikmin 3
- The Last of Us
- Animal Crossing: New Leaf
- Mario and Luigi: Dream Team
- FIFA 13
- Far Cry 3
- Skyrim – Legendary Edition
- Tomb Raider
- Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes
Once again illustrating the shocking success story that comes of wanting to play with blocks. Not even the backing from the best like that given for The Last of Us can hold Mojang back for long!
