Rumors that the fourth Diablo title would be announced at this year’s Blizzcon have been circulating over the past few weeks. As many suspected, they turned out to be true. Diablo 4 has officially been announced by Blizzard, and it was the first game announced at Blizzcon 2019.
Blizzard promises Diablo 4 will go back to its darker roots, after the third title’s less-gloomy, “rainbow” aesthetic. The gameplay trailer shown during the announcement indicates that with a style closer to Diablo 2, and even Path of Exile rather than the more cartoony visuals of the third title, things have certainly changed.
One surprise hidden in this announcement is the inclusion of “PvP zones,” which may very well be different from Diablo 3‘s PvP arenas. We’ll have to wait and see, as the release date for Diablo 4 is still shrouded in mystery.
However, there are some things to be potentially gleaned from the Diablo 4 gameplay trailer that aired shortly after the cinematic trailer at the top of this article. From what we can tell, there look to be mage, druid, and barbarian classes, as well as horses. Each class gets its time in the limelight, showing off its attacks and abilities.
Locales seem to run the gamut from deserts and swamps to snowy mountain ranges and grasslands. Look closely near the around the 1-minute mark to see a small Dovakhinn reference inserted for good measure.
Diablo 4 will be coming not only to PC, but also PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Keep an eye on GameSkinny for more news on this continuation of the most iconic ARPG series.
