Shenmue 3‘s first DLC add-on is coming soon — January 21, in fact. It’s the first of several anticipated DLC expansions, and it introduces a new mini-game called the Battle Rally.

Battle Rally lets you play as a different character other than Ryu, which is a first for Shenmue, with some playable characters including Wei Zhen and Wuying Ren. It’s not completely clear what sort of racing we’ll be doing, though it will involve “fresh gaming activities in a race unlike any other.”

So, please look forward to that.

The Battle Rally DLC can be purchased as a standalone item from the PSN Store or Epic Games Store for $7.99. However, if you purchased the complete edition of Shemnue 3, the DLC will unlock automatically on January 21.

Shenmue 3 made it on our list of 2019’s best games, and it’s a lot of fun for the right audience. In our official Shenmue 3 review, we said that, “for better or worse, Shenmue 3 is a blast from the past. It’s a beautiful world marred only by its insistence to stay the same.

We’ll be keeping an eye out for this and other DLC that gets added to the game, so stay tuned to GameSkinny for more Shenmue 3 news and updates as it develops.
