Fresh from scooping the Ultimate Game of the Year award at the UK Golden Joystick Awards 2012, Bethesda has announced the continuation of the epic story of Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim with a stirring video trailer of their new downloadable content, Dragonborn.

In the trailer, as well as some tantalising clips of gratuitous spiky violence involving goblins and zombies, an ugly brute who’s clearly drunk too much guinness, and some impressive vistas, there is clearly evidence of the ability to mount dragons. The skies of Tamriel are about to become louder than an international airport, with Fus-Ro-Dah jousts set to be more popular than Quidditch. Maybe.

Of greater concern to the general population – and even more so for those of a scaly disposition – is the heralded arrival of a mysterious individual who apparently has a bit of a a taste for dragon flesh. Not only does this new nemesis like his food hotter than a vindaloo, he is also Dragonborn like our hero, except he was first. So there.

Just when you thought you could put your feet up and compose a few new ditties with your buddies in the Bard’s Guild too.

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Dragonborn will be available on December 4 on Xbox, but no PC date has been confirmed at time of writing.

Broken paramedic and coffee-drinking Englishman whose favourite dumb animal is an oxymoron. After over a decade of humping and dumping the fat and the dead, my lower spine did things normally reserved for Rubik's cubes, bringing my career as a medical clinician to an unexpectedly early end. Fortunately, my real passion is in writing and given that I'm now highly qualified in the art of sitting down, I have the time to pursue it. Having blogged about video games (well, mostly EVE Online) for years, I hope to channel my enjoyment of wordcraft and my hobby of gaming into one handy new career that doesn't involve other people's vomit.
