Blizzard has a long history of canning games well into development. Unfortunately, a number of genre-crossing titles have met an untimely demise for one reason or another. Most notable among them were the point-and-click adventure game Warcraft Adventures: Lord Of The Clans, as well as the third-person shooter StarCraft: Ghost.
That latter was so close to release that posters and life-sized cutouts hit game shops before cancelation. Despite the hype surrounding the game, Blizzard’s early shooter was sadly “put on hold” sometime around 2005. Though it was never completed, and the series eventually move on to Starcraft 2: Wings Of Liberty and that game’s sequels, fans never lost hope that Starcraft: Ghost would return.
Recently, it did. Again. Kind of.
While this isn’t exactly the first time Ghost footage has escaped into the wild, a newly leaked video of the game’s test build taken off an Xbox dev kit was uploaded by YouTuber Delso Bezerra. Seen above, fans can catch their clearest glimpse of the game in action, where recon ghost Nova tackles Zerglings and infected Terrans in some sort of Terran structure.
Pretty standard stuff, it looks like something that would ultimately influence parts of Blizzard’s team-based shooter, Overwatch, more than a decade later. Ghost was first announced in 2002 for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and Nintendo Gamecube.
In other Blizzard news, the development company just released an upgraded version of its classic RTS game,Warcraft 3. Titled Warcraft 3: Reforged, the game caused a stir after release because many of the elements Blizzard promised fans were either missing or missed the point of a remaster, such as the lackluster cutscenes. Despite negative reception, Blizzard remains committed to making the remaster something worthy of its predecessor.
Additionally, the developer is working on both the mobile action RPG Diablo Immortal, as well as the full-fledged PC and console sequel to Diablo 3, Diablo 4.
