It’s was puzzling to some that a game released that celebrates some of the greatest war machines of the 20th Century would take so long to feature British tanks. After all, it was the British who first deployed them in the World War One. Although in fairness to the French, they were kicking around similar ideas at the time and they did come up with the whole “flying artillery” concept in the Napoleonic era.
Interesting factoid: Tanks are so called because they were cunningly manufactured by the British as water carriers to hide their true purpose from the enemy. The Germans went for the more logical “Panzer” which means “armour”. Whilst we’re on random WWI facts, the British colloquial term for cigarettes: “fags”, comes from the morale-boosting packs sent to troops on the front lines. These packages would be filled with cigarettes and would be marked with the phrase “For A Good Smoke”, which was shortened to FAGS. Stop sniggering at the back.
