Form & Function

...an outfit caught her eye!
This article is over 11 years old and may contain outdated information

Katoki’s outfit was planned around having a full range of motion as it would be disadvantageous to be hindered by one’s own clothing. While it didn’t start out this way, the tailors across Tyria had always heard an earful from her as she simply did not want another coat. One day an opportunity arisen as the Black Lion Trading Company where an outfit caught her eye! The outfit was labeled as the Krytan Armor set but the bustier matched up with the jerkin was what she wanted.

Now, there was an exception to the function over form rule she kept. This one exception was the set of Slayer Bracers picked up on her travels for the plating as it would also be disadvantageous to lose a hand.. or both. It was a gift from the troops that fought alongside her at Fort Trinity in the Straits of Devastation. While they weren’t a major hinderance, they did make her arms feel stiffer by just a bit. This was easily overlooked as these gloves were unique due to the plating which served as another means of deflecting a blade should the event arise that her own blade was not quick enough.

Katoki had always been content about the outfit she had, as it was light but provided enough protection for her line of work. There were two things that nagged at her constantly though, being the leggings and “boots” she had picked up from the time spent on the lands of the resurfaced Orr. The troops had identified them as Duelist legging and Duelist boots on everyone that had it and the name stuck. She supposed this was due to the type of fighting those who happened to fancy the clothing did. While they were made in such a way that allowed for a custom fit every time, they didn’t quite match her jerkin. Katoki was wise enough to know now that the local tailors couldn’t do anything about it with the stocks they had, so she continued to keep quiet about it.

One day though, these sky pirates that called themselves the Aether Blades reared their faces in Lion’s Arch creating havoc. All able and willing fighters were dispatched to take their shot at the newly discovered hideout that was under the Council’s noses the entire time. It was in the hideout that new articles of clothing made in such brilliant and efficient ways were discovered. Katoki had procured a copy for herself in the time spent with her group and set about afterwards to see what the tailors and Black Lion Trading Company could do with it, for the leggings she noticed would be a perfect new look. Money wasn’t an issue, for she was the Commander of the Pact who led the forces that had sieged and defeated the Orrian threat. The pay was more than she needed and the troops looked up to her. What more could a girl want?

With the commotion about the pirates quieting down, the thought of home had struck Katoki. After having gathered her immediate belongings, she headed off for the Asura Gate labeled for Divinity’s Reach. After exiting on the other end, she had a strange urge to visit the aquarium above the District Promenade. As the sight of water was always relaxing, she figured “Why not?” as she also loved the way the waters would alter the light that came through that hallway in such a unique way. It was just before the aquarium in which she heard a few street vendors advertising their wares. One of them had this pair of cute sandals that were extremely light and comfortable. The price was agreeable as well so she purchased them on the spot after a bit of light contemplation and slipped them on. They allowed for nimble movement and at the end of the day, she was a thief who had adapted her fighting for open fields alongside the tighter spaces. What good would a thief be if the mark heard them approaching, right? Now, she no longer had to watch for the ends of the four-sided blades that were attached to her previous “Duelist” boots. Now then, it was off to the aquarium!
